Sometimes when we are organising a , corporate event, wedding reception or party we often take great pains to perfect every minor detail. We get the right people, the right food etc. But it can still go one of three ways:

a) The party can be a roaring success from the outset.

b) It can start off a little bit tame, but as people start to mellow and lower their guard, the party can start to kick.

c) The party never takes off.

Very often we assemble a number of acquaintances together in a hotel, club or restaurant and we expect them to mingle and inter-react instantly.

When people first arrive at reception or party it is nice to make them feel comfortable and at ease. Very often (if it's a big corporate event) we organise a band for the main part of the evening but often ignore the pre-dinner drinks in the bar. The result is that there is a lack of...

Ambience

For some unknown reason people find it easier to talk when there is some music and chatter in the background. Having mellow jazz in the background is a great party idea and provides the right music to make your guests feel comfortable.

Someone to talk to

Very often people are invited to a party events and find that they don't really know anyone there. I've often watched them and noticed that they usually end up trying to make conversation with a barman or me. I'm not a psychologist but I know that many people (especially single women) who seem at ease talking to me at the piano would feel completely different about striking up a conversation if I was just standing in a pub somewhere. The difference is that I provide them with a topic of.....

Conversation

Having a jazz pianist is a great party idea because it provides a focal point and is usually regarded as being novel (even by people who wouldn't normally listen to piano music). We all have something to say about music whether its X Factor, jazz, classical music, a west end show or how their daughters piano lessons are coming along.

Carefully consider the idea of having some mellow jazz at your party it will definitely give that finishing touch.
