About MeHi, my name is Eugene Portman and I am available as a jazz pianist in London, Essex, Sussex, Kent, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Bournemouth or UK events. I am often hired as a wedding pianist but I can provide music or entertainment for any function or party. I specialise in mellow jazz piano and my my involvement in the contemporary & jazz music scene includes performing as a solo jazz pianist, in jazz trios, duos, quartets and jazz bands. The Music I PlaySome people would describe me as a jazz pianist while others would say that I verge on being a cocktail pianist, or lounge pianist. What is for sure is that I am no modernist, my main influences being jazz pianists like: George Shearing, Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander and Dudley Moore. I play music by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Burt Bacharach and all the other great writers of melodic standards. People hire me for cocktail parties, and the music I play (sometimes called 'dinner jazz') seems ideal for that sort of thing, but if you do need something a little more exciting - I can usually accommodate. Where I perform -Here are just some of the areas I perform as a pianist: London, Essex, Sussex, Kent, Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Surrey. I will however cover the entire UK and have made frequent visits to Scotland. I have, at one time or another, worked in the main London venues including: The Cafe Royal, Quaglinos, The Emirates Stadium, The Royal Festival Hall and Ronnie Scott's. You can find a larger list of venues and a list of satisfied clients on this site. Besides performing at venues I also do quite a lot of parties, barbecues and functions at private homes. My availability as a jazz pianistI am frequently booked as a wedding pianist and have been known to do up to five weddings a week. I am also available for any party, fashion show, trade show, party, civil partnership, corporate event, or any other special occasion. I will perform anywhere in the UK or abroad. My availability as a jazz trio, duo, quartet, or band.If you are looking for something a little different from the usual function band or DJ; then a jazz band, trio or duo playing tasteful mellow jazz might be the answer. We can also provide an hour's dance music at the end of the evening (please see Disco Page for more details). At the moment I am working with five outstanding vocalists: Alice Harvey from Derby, Dave Edwards from East Grinstead in Sussex, Steve Conway from Basingstoke (Hampshire), Sheila Daniels from Cheam, Surrey and Beth Talbot from East Molesey (Surrey).
